So i’ve decided that, high up on what I want to write my senior thesis on (which I am totally already thinking about because i can’t friggin wait to write a whole million page paper on music), is this new thing called trap music. I’ve spent an obscene amount of hours the last couple days, procrastinating from finals work, watching interviews/music videos of people like kreayshawn and brook candy (or that girl from the Grimes video) and now I see this post on hipster runoff (which, may be a sign that i was redirected to this shit site while learning about these young trashy people): http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/2012/what-is-trap-trvp-music.html

This is some seriously fascinating stuff– I was in total awe when I watched the following video last night…. it made me think a LOT about what it says that people like this can get half a million people’s attention and a lot of money for legitimizing this as a career choice. Not only that but it got me thinking a lot about women and what they have to do to get noticed in this industry– what are their choices? It seems completely polarized (extreme brook candy/nicki minaj or depressed cat power/sharon von etten). guhhhh want to discuss this with someone.

Questions: what is trap music??

This might be one of the best songs i’ve heard in a couple weeks- it has that perfect balance of a sultry melody with consistent rhythm that works in the best way ever. Definitely having this on repeat all tonight and through the next week. Need more music like this. And this video is fantastic.
